Welcome.

Welcome to what exactly? Well, that—I hope—will become clearer as the weeks go by. Professionally, I once wrote regularly about the arts and published an opinionated guide to events called—you guessed it—The Friday Five.

In those good old days, people went to shows and concerts without having to stick a swab up their nostrils, and they read about the events in newspapers and magazines. Those esteemed institutions had staffs of arts writers and critics, who generally offered insights and enthusiastic recommendations. I wrote about shows and concerts and talked to the folks who put their heart and soul into them. It was a good gig.

In this new variation, I’m widening my horizon to include a broader range of things I’ve encountered or thought about. There will be the occasional “consumer guide”-style recommendation, but I don’t feel beholden to journalistic standards of “coverage.” I’ll be more inclined to meander and speculate, without getting too Andy Rooney-ish about things.
